How to Start Reading the Bible
Starting the Bible can feel larger than it is. You do not need a perfect plan, a seminary background, or a complicated method to begin.
You need a clear starting point, a readable translation, and a simple rhythm that makes returning easier tomorrow than it feels today.
Start with a book that introduces Jesus clearly
Many beginners do best in John, Mark, Psalms, or Proverbs. These books create a cleaner on-ramp than trying to read the whole Bible straight through from Genesis on day one.
A strong first step makes the rest of Scripture easier to approach with context and confidence.
Choose a readable translation
You do not need the perfect translation. You need one you will actually read. NIV, ESV, and NLT are all common starting points because they balance clarity and trust.
Once you find a translation that feels readable, stick with it long enough for familiarity to build.
Keep the first habit small
A chapter a day is enough. So is a shorter passage. The aim is not to prove discipline but to begin a repeatable pattern of attention to Scripture.
Small daily return beats occasional intensity every time.
